Residents of Acacia Grove Mobile Home Park in Boyes Hot Springs were cleaning up after breakfast last Saturday, June 30, when a pickup truck crashed through the redwood fence separating the park from Highway 12, striking two trailers and pushing one off its mount.

But, according to the California Highway Patrol, the 1998 Chevy pickup sustained only moderate front end damage, and the driver was uninjured.

CHP Public Information Officer Marc Renspurger said that as there had been no charges filed, the identity of the driver could not be released. Renspurger also said the report made no mention of intoxication, impairment or distraction that might have led to the “unsafe turning movement” that produced the damage.

But speed appeared to be a factor upon a visit to the mobile home park, located just south of the E-Saan Thai restaurant and across from Mary’s Pizza.

Some 30 feet from the destroyed fencing, a Caltrans street lamp had been severed from its mount by the truck where it apparently jumped the curb while northbound on Sonoma Highway.

The pickup continued to crash through the redwood fence, knocking down a brick pillar as it did so, then striking two mobile homes.

It hit one of them so hard it moved the vehicle several feet, knocking it off its mounts and separating the gas and other utility connections.

Redwood shards and other rubble was still at the location, behind yellow caution tape, five days later.

Calls to the management of Acacia Grove were not returned.

Witnesses to the accident are encouraged to contact the Index-Tribune, and the Golden Gate office of the CHP in Napa, 253-4906.
